Enhancing Internal Quality Assurance and Study Programme Development for Higher Education Institutions in Namibia

About the training

The training aimed to strengthen internal quality assurance (IQA) systems in Namibia's higher education institutions (HEIs). It offered, among others, capacity development in quality assurance in study program development and covered regional, continental, and international quality assurance frameworks like the African Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance (ASG-QA) and the INQAAHE Guidelines of Good Practice.

Key Thematic Areas:

  • Designing Effective Quality Management Systems
  • Tools and Procedures for Quality Assurance
  • QA of Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (including online)
  • QA and Information-based Planning/Decision-making
  • QA in Academic Programme Development

The training comprised two workshops. The first workshop focused more on understanding quality concepts and designing/implementing effective quality assurance systems in higher education institutions (HEIs). The second workshop focused on quality assurance in curriculum development and review. Facilitators/trainers, both national and international DIES alumni, guided participants in conceptualising and executing their institutional change projects (ICPs) as part of putting theory into practice. Participants worked on their ICPs during the first workshop and the period between the two workshops.

The Training Committee facilitated the training sessions. In addition to the two workshops, the Committee enriched the training with online activities implemented before, between, or after the face-to-face workshops. The Committee also provided coaching and mentoring support for implementing the projects based on the Project Action Plan (PAP) or other comparable project management tools. Each training event consisted of presentations, interactive discussions, teamwork, and simulated activities.
