Dr. Ha Thuc Vien is the Vice-President of the Vietnamese- German University (VGU) for academic and affairs since 2012, cum Director of New Model University Project loaned by the Work Bank to build up the new campus and management system of VGU towards the autonomous research university with excellent research and teaching quality as well as modern governance and management. He has also made major contributions to the establishment and operation of Economics and Management Faculty, and currently holds the dean position. Before joining VGU in 2012, Dr. Ha Thuc Vien was the Head of Natural resources and Tourism department and also the Founder and Director of Center for International Education of University of Agriculture and Forestry Ho Chi Minh city. His earlier career includes a senior lecturer in Resources and Land Economics, Resource Management, Land Use and Project Management. He obtained his B.Sc. in Land Management from University of Agriculture and Forestry Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam in 1996; his M.A. in Sustainable Development from Chiang Mai University, Thailand in 2003; and Ph.D. from Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany in 2007. Currently, he has been also interested in climate change, new institutions economics and governance, and livelihoods.
